Sources & methodology

Centridae is built to be a reliable, evidence-based reference for the saltwater reef aquarium—not just opinion. This page explains how our guides are written, reviewed, and sourced.

Evidence over folklore

Reef keeping is full of repeated advice that never had a basis. Wherever a claim can be checked against published research, manufacturer data, or established aquarium science, we cite it. Where the hobby genuinely lacks consensus, we say so rather than inventing certainty.

What we cite

Peer-reviewed papers (with a DOI link), reference books from recognised authors, manufacturer specifications and standards, and reputable institutions. Each guide that makes specific factual claims carries a numbered References section, and those citations are also published as structured data so search engines and AI can verify them.

Review & updates

Guides are reviewed before publication and re-checked over time. When a guide has been editorially reviewed it shows a reviewer and a last-reviewed date near the title. As the science and the hobby evolve, we update guides rather than leaving them stale.

Corrections

Found an error or a better source? We treat corrections as a priority. Reach out and—if you're right—we'll fix the guide and credit the correction.
